Stanford Concludes Action At The San Diego Crew Classic

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The Stanford varsity women's eight finished fourth today in the Jessop-Whittier Cup event at the San Diego Crew Classic behind University of Washington, USC, and Washington State.

USC led the race from the start with Washington in second and the Cardinal a close third through the thousand meter mark. In the third quarter, USC succumbed to an attack by the Huskies and Washington State overtook Stanford to secure third. UCLA finished fifth and Wisconsin finished sixth.

Stanford's second varsity eight had a slow start, but later powered through the UCLA Bruins to finish fifth. Washington won the race and the Jackie Ann Stitt-Hungness Trophy. USC was second, followed by Washington State and Clemson.

'Washington's re-emergence shows that the PAC-10 is alive and well,' said head women's coach Yaz Farooq. 'I'm grateful for the opportunity to race such worthy opponents in a six-lane format. We'll see USC, UCLA and Washington State again in two weeks, and we're looking forward to it.'

Stanford races next at the Stanford Invitational on the Redwood Shores home course. University of Central Florida, UCLA, USC, University of Victoria and Washington State will compete.
