No. 3 Stanford Plays Two This Week; Barte Is Pac-10's Best

STANFORD, Calif.- Freshman Hilary Barte has been named Pac-10 Player of the Week for Mar. 31- Apr. 6, earning her first career honor after helping guide Stanford to a key home sweep of No. 8 USC and No. 9 UCLA over the weekend.
As Stanford (15-4, 5-1 Pac-10) defeated USC 5-2 and UCLA 4-3, Barte contributed victories over two nationally-ranked players to improve to 21-5 overall and 16-3 in dual match competition. Barte defeated No. 50 Lindsey Nelson of USC 6-3, 6-3 on Friday and followed that up with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 victory over No. 11 Riza Zalameda on Saturday. Barte improved to 2-0 against both players this year.
For the season, she is now 13-0 since being inserted into the No. 1 spot back on Feb. 22. Barte is also 12-1 against Pac-10 opponents, 14-3 against nationally-ranked foes and 14-1 in home matches.
Stanford jumped two spots in the national rankings to No. 3 after the impressive victories. Northwestern holds down the No. 1 spot, followed by Georgia Tech and the top-five is rounded out with No. 4 Florida and No. 5 California.
The Cardinal has two matches scheduled this week, starting with a home contest against Oregon on Wednesday, Apr. 9, at 3 p.m. With Saturday's win over UCLA, Stanford stretched its regular season home dual match win streak to 103. Throw in a 26-0 record in NCAA Tournament matches played at Taube Family Tennis Stadium and the Cardinal has not been defeated in the last 129 contests played on its home court. Stanford's last home loss occurred on Feb. 27, 1999, when No. 4 California pulled a 5-4 upset.
Stanford also travels to Eugene to face Oregon on Saturday, Apr. 12, in a 1:30 p.m. tilt.
