Dickinson Wins Peg Barnard Collegiate, Huskies Finish Second

April 12, 2008

PALO ALTO, CALIF. - Washington freshman Karinn Dickinson shot an even-par 71 for the second-consecutive day to win the Peg Barnard Collegiate at Stanford Golf Course, Saturday, while also helping the Husky women's golf team to a second-place team finish.

Dickinson claimed her first career medalist honors, winning the event by one shot over Stanford's Angela King. The Husky frosh becomes the first UW player to win a tournament title since Paige Mackenzie won the 2006 NCAA West Regional. Dickinson equaled her career-low of 1-under 71 which she shot in the opening round on Friday.

The Huskies tallied their best finish of the season with runner-up team honors. UW shot 14-over 298 in the final round to finish at 27-over 595. The Huskies finished just four shots behind Stanford (23-over 591) which rallied to win the team title for the second-straight year shooting 7-over 291 on the final day. Oregon State finished third at 31-over 599.

Including Dickinson, Washington had three players finish among the top 15 individuals as freshman Anya Alvarez was fifth at 5-over 147 and sophomore Molly Aronsson tied for 11th at 8-over 150. Alvarez and Aronsson both carded final round scores of 4-over 75.
