WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Washington junior sprinter Jordan Boase has been named Pac-10 Men's Track Athlete of the Week for Apr. 7-13, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.

Boase, a native of Bothell and graduate of Bothell High School, ran a lifetime-best 44.82 to win the 400-meter Invitational at last Saturday's Sun Angel Classic in Tempe, Ariz. The time was a meet record, and tied 2004 Olympic 400-meter gold medalist Jeremy Wariner for the second-fastest time in the world this year.

Boase's run also broke the UW school record, previously held by 10-time All-American Ja'Warren Hooker, who ran 44.91 in 2000.

After finishing third in the 400m at the 2008 NCAA Indoor Championships in mid-March, Boase had not competed until Saturday. He dropped a full three seconds off his previous outdoor best, and had never run under 46-seconds prior to Saturday, let alone becoming just the second Husky to ever run under 45-seconds.

This is the first Pac-10 Track Athlete of the Week award for the Huskies since Shane Charles in 2006, and the 15th award all-time, including field athletes.
