Marie Tuite Named NCAA Gymnastics West Regional Administrator of the Year
April 14, 2008
University of Washington Senior Associate Athletic Director for Sports Programs, Marie Tuite, was named the Women's Gymnastics West Regional Administrator of the Year for her efforts with the Huskies during the 2008 season. The Washington competed at the NCAA West Regional in Corvallis, Ore., last Saturday, finishing fourth as a team. In addition, freshman Haley Bogart earned a bid to the NCAA Championships in Athens, Ga., April 24-26.
'Marie has been so supportive of our gymnastics program and shows her support constantly,' said head coach Joanne Bowers. 'She supported us putting a bid in to host NCAA Regionals next year, she led a coaches meeting at our Pac-10 Championship, during which she showed our coaches organization how committed the University of Washington is to help promote women's gymnastics. She helps make our job easier and will be a big part of us moving back to the national stage. She is very deserving of this award and we are excited she won it!'
Tuite, who oversees 18 of Washington's athletic programs, is in her 13th year as the Senior Associate Athletic Director for Sports Programs. Tuite, a native of Livonia, Mich., joined the Husky staff after serving as the Assistant Director of Championships for the National Collegiate Athletic Association since 1989. She was a liaison for the NCAA's sports committees in the administration and conduct of various championships.
UW, which hosted the Pac-10 Championships on March 29, will be one of the six sites for NCAA Regionals on April 4, 2009.
