WSU Closes Out Regular Season Against UW

Pullman, Wash.- The Washington State University tennis team (15-9 overall, 1-6 Pac-10), ranked No. 40 (ITA) nationally, will host its regular season fianle against No. 34 University of Washington Saturday April 19, at the WSU Outdoor Tennis Courts.

Scouting the Huskies - UW holds a 33-8 all-time record against the Cougars...the last time the two teams met, March 14, 2008, UW downed the Cougars, 6-1, in a non-conference match in Seattle...WSU last defeated the Huskies, March 18, 2007, by a score of 4-3 in Pullman...UW is led by freshman Venise Chan who is ranked No. 40 and boasts a 20-7 singles record.

Last Week - The Cougars hosted a doubleheader Saturday against Montana State and Portland State...WSU rolled past both opponents on its way to earning its 14th and 15th victories of the season...the Cougars now have 14 or more wins in each of the last three seasons.

Against Montana State and Portland State- WSU rolled past the Bobcats 7-0...the Cougars did not loose a set during singles play and swept all three doubles matches...senior Ekaterina Burduli led the way for the Cougars with a, 6-0, 6-3 victory over Stephanie Jasper at the No. 1 spot...the Cougars cruised past Portland State posting a 6-1 victory...WSU started strong winning two of three doubles matches to clinch the point...senior Aleksandra Stefanova grabbed a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Stephanie Fuchs at No. 2...the victory was the Cougars fourth in a row, which is the second longest winning streak of the season.

Wins Piling Up - Senior Ekaterina Burduli continues her journey as the all-time wins leader at WSU...Burduli earned two victories this weekend improving to 27-9 on the season...the 27 wins is the most she has recorded in her four years at WSU and is second all-time for total wins in a season...this is the third straight season Burduli has recorded 20 or more wins...she extends the school-record to 90 career victories.

Rankings -WSU holds a current ranking of No. 40 according to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association...senior Ekaterina Burduli has earned a No. 55 ranking according to ITA.
