The No. 3 UCLA men's track and field team will travel to Eugene, OR this Saturday to face the No. 25 Oregon Ducks in an old-school scored dual meet. This is the first head-to-head matchup between the schools since 1985 and UCLA holds a 10-4 advantage all-time in the meet series.

The Bruins hold a 6-4 lead over the Ducks when the meet is contested in Eugene, and a 4-0 record at home. It will be the first opportunity for several athletes to compete on Hayward Field's renovated track which is hosting the 2008 U.S. Olympic Trials in late June through early July.

The meet will be televised in Eugene, but fans can also purchase an 'O-Zone' subscription for $9.95 to view the meet online at the goducks website.

UCLA head coach Art Venegas believes the revival of the dual meet is vital to the health of the sport, and he and UO director of track and field Vin Lananna agreed to a two-year trial.

The meet will be scored in traditional dual meet fashion, 5-3-1 for 1st, 2nd and 3rd-place finishers and 5-0 for the relays. The meet begins at 12:30 p.m. with the long jump and ends with the 4x400 relay at 2:50 p.m.

The Bruins will send a full team with the sole goal being to win the meet. UCLA looks to be incredibly competitive in the distances and the field events and will look to give Oregon a battle on Saturday.

Currently, the Bruins have 9 men ranked in the top-10 nationally which has helped them maintain their No. 3 national ranking for the second straight week. Athletes with top-10 national marks include - Laef Barnes (1500m, 3:41.76, 3rd); Henry Hagenbuch (steeple, 8:52.14, 6th); Kevin Craddock (110mH, 13.73, 9th); Dustin DeLeo, Chris Bencomo and Bobby Talley (pole vault, 17-00.75, tied for 6th); John Caulfield (shot put, 62-7.25, 4th and discus, 197-10, 7th); Greg Garza (discus, 3rd, 201-10); and Boldizsar Kocsor (hammer, 222-6, 5th).

Of note for this weekend is Darius Savage's appearance in the meet. Savage is busy with spring football practice, but will compete in Oregon. He will participate in a football scrimmage Friday night at UCLA, then catch a 6:00 am flight into Eugene to compete on Saturday.

Athletes not heading to Eugene will compete at the Mt. SAC Relays and Cerritos Invitational. Distance runners and vaulters are scheduled to compete.
