Stanford Continues Strong Performances At Mt. SAC Relays

    Stanford had seven athletes compete Friday at the Mt. SAC Relays from Walnut, Calif. Competing mostly in the field events, The Cardinal set several personal bests.

    The women were led by Michaela Wallerstedt who set a personal best in the discus with a throw of 162-9. The mark improved her regional standard and moved her into seventh on the Pac-10 list.

    Also with a personal best for Stanford was Caitlin Hewitt who finished second in the pole vault. Hewitt achieved the regional standard with a vault of 12-7 ½.

    Achieving a season best in the high jump was Tessa Flippin who won the event with a leap of 5-6.

    The men were led by Mike Macellari who achieved a personal best in the discus with a throw of 174-0. He also doubled in the shot put where he took first place with a throw of 54-3 ¼.

    Also in the throws for Stanford was Carter Wells who finished seventh in the hammer throw with a toss of 181-6.

    The only track athletes to compete for Stanford were Hari Mix and Neftalem Araia in the 5,000 meters. Mix blazed to a personal best and regional standard time of 13:56.28. The time also moves him into first-place on the current Pac-10 list. Araia finished with a time of 14:35.27 to finish 23rd.
