Charli Turner Thorne Announces the Signing of Junior College All-American
April 21, 2008
TEMPE, Ariz.- Arizona State head women's basketball coach Charli Turner Thorne today announced that junior college All-American Jazlyn Davis has signed a letter of intent to study and play basketball at ASU.
A 5-9 guard, Davis comes to ASU after two seasons at Mt. SAC (Calif.) Community College, where she helped lead the Mounties to state titles in 2007 and 2008.
'Jazlyn Davis is a dynamic player who will be an outstanding addition to our program,' said Turner Thorne. 'She is a strong and skilled player who can play all three guard positions. Besides being a proven scorer and great decision-maker, Jazlyn will bring great perimeter defense. She is intelligent and hardworking and she comes to us with a championship mentality. We are thrilled she chose to be a Sun Devil.'
This past season, Davis earned WBCA JC/CC All-America honors and was named State and South Coast Conference Player of the Year following a campaign in which she averaged 20.4 points, 5.7 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 3.0 steals per game. She connected on 50.4 percent of her field goal attempts, including 44.1 percent from three-point range. Davis, who was named the MVP of the California State Championship Tournament, scored 20 or more points 18 times, including a career-best and school record 44 in a state tournament semifinal win over Fresno City.
Davis graduated from Toledo (Ohio) Bowsher High where she concluded her career as Bowsher's all-time leading scorer with 1,838 total points. A four-year basketball letterwinner at guard, Davis averaged 23.7 points, 5.6 rebounds, 4.7 assists and 4.4 steals per game as a senior on her way to first-team all-state recognition.
Davis becomes the fourth new addition to ASU's 2008-09 squad, joining Kimberly Brandon (Chatsworth, Calif.), Alex Earl (Beaverton, Ore.) and Janae Fulcher (La Jolla, Calif.), who signed with the Sun Devils last fall.
