No. 23 Cal in 6th after 2nd Round of Pac-10 Championships

PALOS VERDES ESTATES, Calif. - No. 23 California stands in sixth place Tuesday after two rounds of the Pac-10 Championships at the Palos Verdes Golf Club. The Golden Bears shot a team score of 305 (+21) today to bring their 36-hole total to 606 (+38).
No. 3 USC, which began the day one shot back in second place, now holds a nine-shot edge over UCLA for the top spot. The Bruins are at nine-over 577 after carding a 292. No. 1 UCLA is second at 586, and No. 4 Arizona State is third at 590 at the 10-team tournament hosted by the Trojans. Cal still has a good chance of posting its seventh consecutive top-five finish at the Pac-10 Championships, as Oregon and Arizona are only six shots ahead of the Bears in a tie for fourth at 600.
Junior Shannon Yocum fired a three-over 74 for Cal's best round of the day. Yocum, who has led the Bears at two tournaments this season, paces her team in a tie for 15th at 149 (+7). She birdied the par four, sixth and 18th holes.
Cal junior Allison Goodman and freshman Pia Halbig are tied for 17th at 150. Halbig fired a 76 (+5) in the second round and topped the Bears with four birdies today, bringing her tournament total to eight birdies. Goodman tallied a 77 (+6) but settled down to shoot even par on the back nine.
Sophomore Roseanne Niven carded a 78 (+7) for the Bears' fourth counting score. Niven, who is in a tie for 36th place at 157, recorded a score of only two-over par on the front nine. Cal freshman Andrea Waters registered an 83 to better her opening round by eight shots.
UCLA's Tiffany Joh and USC's Belen Mozo share first place at even-par 142. Arizona State's Azahara Munoz is third at 143.
Cal starts the final round at 8 a.m. Wednesday beginning with the first hole.
