Alvarez Leads Huskies On Final Day of Pac-10 Championships

PALOS VERDES, CALIF. - Washington freshman Anya Alvarez led the Husky women's golf team on the final day of the Pac-10 Championships, shooting a 4-over 75 to finish in a tie for 14th on the individual leaderboard.

Alvarez was the bright spot for the Huskies who turned in a final-round performance of 34-over 318 to place ninth overall in the team standings. Washington, which stood in eighth place after each of the first two rounds, ended the 54-hole conference event at 84-over 936.

The Huskies struggled on the final day with Alvarez being the only UW player to break 80 on the course. She culminated the tournament at 12-over 225 and was Washington's top finisher for the third time in the last four events.

USC dominated the field with all five Women of Troy in the lineup finishing among the top eight players. USC won the tournament title by a 26-stroke margin (8-over 860) over UCLA. USC's Paola Moreno came away with Pac-10 medalist honors as the only player to finish under par (1-under 212). She carded a final round score of 4-under 67.

UW sophomore Christina Yoon tied for 22nd at 16-over 229 after turning in a final-round score of 9-over 80. Yoon had tallied rounds of 5-over 76 and 2-over 73 during the first two days. Freshman Karinn Dickinson placed 40th at 26-over 239, while sophomore Molly Aronsson tied for 43rd (30-over 243) and freshman Nicole Ferrero tied for 49th (44-over 257).

UCLA finished second (34-over 886) and was followed by Arizona State (39-over 891), Arizona (56-over 908) and California (56-over 908). Stanford (61-over 913), Oregon (64-over 916), Washington State (64-over 916), Washington (84-over 936) and Oregon State (90-over 942) rounded out the team standings.
