Cardinal Wrestlers To Compete At FILA Junior Nationals

Stanford, Calif. - Eleven Cardinal wrestlers are set to compete in the FILA Junior Freestyle National Championships this weekend, with competition beginning on Friday at the Las Vegas Convention Center in Las Vegas.

The event is for wrestlers born between 1988 and 1990, with the freestyle portion running from Friday at 9 a.m. to Saturday at 2:30 p.m. The top six placewinners qualify for the 2008 FILA Junior World Team Training Camp and World Team Trials in Colorado Springs, Colo., May 23-24.

Current Cardinal sophomore and two-time NCAA qualifier Zack Giesen will compete at 84 kg, and will be joined by ten of his freshman teammates: Nick Amuchastegui (79 kg), Kyle Barrett (74 kg), Marcus Henderson (74 kg), Porfirio Madrigal (60 kg), Blair Matsuura (63 kg), Murdoch Miller (79 kg), Austin Quarles (50 kg), Max Rosefigura (70 kg), Steve Scheele (63 kg) and Anton Scherba (79 kg).

Current Assistant Coach Jason Borrelli will compete in the Senior Men's Freestyle National Championships beginning on Friday as well.
