April 23, 2008
LOS ANGELES -- The USC women's volleyball program has released its 2008 schedule, head coach Mick Haley announced today. Along with the Pac-10 Conference schedule, the Women of Troy will open the season at the AVCA College Showcase (teams to be determined) in Omaha, Neb., before hosting the Holiday Inn LA City Center Trojan Invitational, featuring Oklahoma, San Diego and Hofstra.
A total of six matches will comprise the Trojan Invitational, starting on Thursday (Sept. 4) with USC against Oklahoma at 7 p.m. and the concluding two matches on Saturday (Sept. 6) with Oklahoma vs. Hofstra at 5 p.m. and USC taking on San Diego at 7:30 p.m.
The Women of Troy hosts Ohio State on Friday (Sept. 12), a day prior to the highly-anticipated USC-Ohio State football game at the Coliseum.
After the Ohio State match, USC makes its first-ever trek to West Point, N.Y., to play Army in its tournament that includes Hartford and Dartmouth before the start of Pac-10 Conference play on Friday (Sept. 26) with a home match against UCLA.
USC faces Stanford at the Galen Center on Friday (Oct. 24) in the first meeting since the two schools faced each other at the NCAA national semifinal last year. The Women of Troy also hosts Oregon on Halloween with a 7 p.m. game on Oct. 31 before USC's homecoming match against Oregon State on Saturday (Nov. 1).
Six starters return from last year's squad that finished 29-5 on the season as USC reached its fourth NCAA Final Four in the past six years. Junior All-America setter Taylor Carico (Manhattan Beach/Mira Costa HS) headlines the group returning for the Women of Troy.
