Stanford Completes Day One Of Pac-10 Tournament; Begins Doubles Play Tomorrow

OJAI, Calif. - The No. 22 Stanford men's tennis team completed day one of the 2008 Pac-10 Tournament today at the 108th Annual Ojai Valley Tournament. The Cardinal advanced four players to the round of 16, two in each bracket, before exiting singles play.
In the Invitational Bracket, Jeff Zeller, Kevin Kaiser, and Paul Morrissey all picked up first round victories. Zeller, in his first singles appearance this year, defeated No. 21 Arizona State's Wes Miller, 7-5, 3-6. Kaiser easily passed by No. 59 Arizona's Nathan Cochrane, 6-1, 6-2, and Morrissey prevailed over Oregon's Stephen Wiechert; 7-5, 6-3.
In the Round of 16, all three Stanford players fell. Zeller lost to No. 7 USC's Daniel Gliner, 7-5, 6-3, Kaiser fell to No. 3 UCLA's Josh Miller, 6-3, 7-6 (3), and Kaiser suffered a defeat at the hands of No. 30 California's Bozhidar Katsarov.
In the Championship tier, Blake Muller was the only Stanford player to advance to the Round of 16. Muller upset No. 35 Washington's No. 118 Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan in the first round, 6-2, 7-6 (8) before falling to Cal's Pedro Zerbini 6-4, 7-6 (4).
The Cardinal will begin doubles play at 9 a.m. tomorrow with two matches in the Invitational Doubles bracket. Doubles Championship play for Stanford will commence at 10 a.m.
