No. 5 Stanford Defeats USC, 26-5

STANFORD, Calif. - Jason Castro went 4-for-6 with a triple and four RBI Saturday as the No. 5 Stanford Cardinal defeated the USC Trojans, 26-5, in a Pac-10 Conference game at Sunken Diamond. Toby Gerhart later hit two home runs in his only at-bats, recording five RBI, as the Cardinal battered the Trojan pitching staff with 24 hits.
Stanford (25-12-2, 10-4) recorded two six-run innings against USC (19-22, 6-8) as Erik Davis (7-1) struck out nine batters in six innings to earn the win for the Cardinal. Every member of the Cardinal starting lineup recorded at least one hit.
Roberto Lopez walked in the first and advanced to second when Nick Buss hit a chopper that first baseman Randy Molina could not handle for the error. Green then hit Davis' 1-0 pitch over the fence in left for a 3-0 USC lead on his seventh of the season before Stanford stormed ahead with 26 unanswered runs.
The Cardinal knocked out USC starter Brad Boxberger (2-3) in the second as Boxberger gave up five runs on five hits in 1 1/3 innings with three walks and three strikeouts. Kevin Couture relieved Boxberger, but also lasted just 1 1/3 innings as he gave up six runs (two earned).
With Green's home run, he extended his career-best hitting streak to 16 games.
