Huskies Climb To Sixth At Pac-10 Championships
April 29, 2008
FAIRFAX, Calif. - Washington men's golf turned in the third-best performance of any team during the third round of the Pac-10 Championships at the Meadow Club, Tuesday, and after carding a 15-over 370 moved into a sixth-place tie with Oregon State heading into Wednesday's final round.
The Huskies opened the day in ninth place and although their third-round score was higher than their first or second round tallies, were able to make the most of their efforts. UW and Oregon State are 29-over 1094 and sit seven shots out of the top-five.
Freshman Tze Huang Choo remains Washington's leader (2-under 211) and is just two strokes behind the overall leader heading into the last 18 holes. Choo is seventh after firing a 2-over 73, but began the day tied atop the leaderboard with three other players. The Husky rookie is also just one shot behind the five players tied for second.
The top two UW efforts of the day came from sophomores Darren Wallace and Nick Taylor. Both carded third-round scores of 1-over 72, as Wallace moved into a tie for 18th place (4-over 217) and Taylor moved into a tie for 28th (7-over 220).
USC is the team leader (4-over 1069) and holds a two-shot lead over Arizona State (6-over 1071). California is third (14-over 1079), UCLA is fourth (16-over 1081) and Stanford is fifth (22-over 1087).
