Golfers Win NCAA Central Regional in Texas

Top-seeded UCLA, led by junior All-America Tiffany Joh, won the NCAA Central Regional in Austin, Tex., at the University of Texas Golf Club on Saturday.
The victory for the Bruins represented their fourth regional title under Head Coach Carrie Forsyth. The Bruins also won their fourth tournament of the season.
UCLA posted a final round team score of 285 (-3) to finish three-under for the tournament at 861, Purdue finished second at 871 (+7), followed by Denver in third place at 882 (+18). TCU was fourth at 884 (+20), followed by fifth place Texas A&M at 885 (+21). In sixth place was Alabama at 896 (+32), Texas was seventh at 899 (+35) and LSU won a playoff for the eighth spot at 902 (+38). These teams along with the top eight finishers in the West and East Regionals will advance to the NCAA Championship in two weeks at the University of New Mexico.
Individually for the Bruins, freshman Maria Jose Uribe tied for first place honors at 208 (-8) after posting a two-under par 70 in the final round. The victory was the second of the season for Uribe. Junior Tiffany Joh finished fourth at 211 (-5) after firing a final round score of 68 (-4). That score was the lowest of the day. Junior Maiya Tanaka recorded the first Top 10 finish of her career, tying for 10th place at 218 (+2) following a final round 72 (E). Tanaka, who walked on to the team last year, battled back Saturday after carding a triple-bogey seven at the 10th hole with a pair of birdies at the 14th and 15th holes. Sophomore Sydnee Michaels tied for 30th at 225 (+9) following a final round score of 76 (+4) and freshman Glory Yang tied for 41st at 228 (+12). Yang carded a final round score of 75 (+3).
Purdue's Maria Hernandez tied for first with Uribe after posting a final round score of 69 (-3).
