Salas Selected For USA vs. Japan Collegiate Golf Championship

USC freshman Lizette Salas is among four NCAA women's golfers who have been selected as part of the 12-member team for the 2008 Fuji Xerox USA vs. Japan Collegiate Golf Championship, the Golf Coaches Association of America announced on Monday (May 12).
The team consists of eight men and four women collegiate players. The 33rd annual competition will be held July 16-18 at Tokyo Golf Club.
In addition to Salas, the men's and women's teams are made up of Nick Bova of Methodist, Auburn's Cydney Clanton, Sam Cyr of Point Loma Nazarene, UCLA's Sydnee Michaels, Kevin O'Connell of North Carolina, Pepperdine's Andrew Putnam, Wichita State's Ryan Spears, Zack Sucher of UAB, Valdosta State's Brent Witcher, Chris Wolfe of Armstrong Atlantic State and Florida's Jessica Yadloczky.
Team USA leads the all-time series, 24-8, and has won the last eight competitions in Japan.
Salas is fourth on USC in stroke average at 73.53. She has finished in the top 15 in six of her past eight tournaments and earned 2008 All-Pac-10 second team honors. She had a season-best tie for fourth at the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational and a sixth at the 2008 Pac-10 Championships. She tied for 11th at the Kent Youel Invitational, tied for 10th at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge, tied for eighth at the Arizona Wildcat Invitational and tied for 15th at the PING/ASU Invitational.
