Vaughn leads Buffs on Academic All-Big 12 Team

IRVING, Texas-  The University of Colorado put 19 student-athletes on the Academic All-Big 12 Track and Field teams, announced by the conference on Tuesday afternoon.

 

Senior Brent Vaughn earned his fourth appearance on the Academic All-Big 12 First Team.

 

Overall, 14 Buffs were named to the first team and five were named to the second team. Of the 19 to earn the academic honor, 13 are on the team for the first time.

 

            Vaughn, who graduated with a degree in applied math/engineering on Friday, May 9, was a mainstay on the Big 12 Commissioner's honor roll. Prior to graduation, he had a GPA of 3.309. Vaughn became the 14th Buffalo to earn the honor four times in his prestigious career.

 

Pete Janson has been named to the first team for the third time in his career. The MCD Biology major was a member of the second team in 2005.

 

Four Buffs are making their second appearance on the first team: Jenny Barringer (political science/economics), Bradley Harkrader (Chemical Engineering/MCD Biology), Veronica Maul (biochemisty) and Sara Vaughn (Psychology/Spanish).

 

Kenyon Neuman (finance) is also a two-time member. He is a member of the second team this year and was on the first team in 2007.

 

To qualify student-athletes must maintain a 3.0 grade point average or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of her team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are eligible.

 

Colorado will host in the 12th annual Big 12 Outdoor Track and Field Championships, May 16-18 at Potts Field in Boulder. The championship starts at 10 a.m. each day. Tickets are available at CUBuffs.com as well as the compete schedule and meet information.
