Katie Follett, Men's 4x100 Relay Win Pac-10 Titles
May 17, 2008
**Competition is still ongoing, full recap to come later**
TEMPE, Ariz. - The Washington track and field team produced two historic Pac-10 champions today on the final day of the Pac-10 Track and Field Championships at Sun Angel Stadium. Sophomore Katie Follett won the 1500-meter run and Jordan Boase, James Fredrickson, Joseph Turner, and Ryan Hamilton combined to win the 4x100-meter relay. Both titles are the first in Washington history in the respective events.
Follett, from Fort Collins, Colo., became the first Husky women's conference champion since Kate Soma won the pole vault in 2004. She held off Stanford's Lauren Centrowitz and Alicia Follmar, and Oregon's Nicole Blood to win in 4:22.41. Husky senior Amanda Miller placed fifth in the race, in 4:27.63.
The win by the men's relay was equally as historic. It is the first ever Pac-10 title for Washington in an event that has been held since 1976. It is also just the third relay win of any kind for the Huskies, and first since 1999 when UW won the 4x400-meters. Boase, a junior from Bothell, Wash., also took second in the 400-meter dash today.
A complete recap will be forthcoming.
