Fresno State Forces a Game Seven

May 18, 2008

Fresno, Calif. - The Fresno State Bulldogs avoided elimination and forced a game seven after their 3-2 win over California on Sunday afternoon in the Fresno Regional. Game seven will start approximately at 3:41 p.m. The winner of game seven advances to Gainesville to face the top-seeded Florida Gators in the NCAA Super Regional.

The Bulldogs gained the early momentum, took advantage of a Cal fielding error and scored two runs courtesy of an Aja Scheuber bases loaded single up the middle off of Marissa Drewrey.

Gina Leomiti picked the right time to connect on her first hit of the game when her two-out, two-strike single in the top of the fifth went to right field to plate both Valerie Arioto and Taylor Kelly to knot the score at 2-2. For Arioto it was her 51st run of the season, tying Lindsey James' mark for the fourth-most runs in a season.

Fresno State came right back in the bottom half of the fifth when Lisamar Coronado singled through the right side allowing for Scheuber to score, putting the Bulldogs back up, 3-2.

Drewrey moved to second all-time for the most starts in a season (45), one behind Holly Yost's mark of 46 starts in 1997.
