Discus Throwers Heading To Big Throwers Classic In Salinas

May 20, 2008

The Bruin discus throwers will head to Salinas for the 'Big Throwers Classic,' held at Hartnell College on Wednesday. The meet is a discus only competition with many of the nation's and world's best athletes in attendance.

Greg Garza, John Caulfield, Darius Savage and Bo Taylor will head to the meet in the hopes of popping a big throw. However, the results of the meet will not count towards the NCAA descending order list, but will count towards Olympic Trials qualifying and USA Track & Field best marks lists.

Right now, the entire Bruin foursome rank in the top-25 in the NCAA this season with Garza leading the way at the No. 2 spot (204-9). Caulfield (197-10) ranks ninth, while Savage (187-4) and Taylor (185-9) rank 19th and 22nd, respectively.

The rest of the team will be off until May 30-31 when the Bruins compete at the NCAA West Regional at Cal State Northridge.
