Cohen Named Second Team Academic All-District VIII

SEATTLE - University of Washington swimmer Yonatan Cohen has been named a second team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VIII selection as announced this morning by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Cohen, a junior from Neve-Monson-Yahud, Israel, was selected to the men's at-large second team. He carries a 3.98 cumulative grade point average and is majoring in physics.
Eligible sports for the men's at-large team are fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming, tennis, volleyball, water polo and wrestling. In the at-large program, nominations are limited to three per school per gender.
Cohen, who was also a first team Pac-10 All-Academic pick, earned All-Pac-10 honors after placing eighth in the 100 breaststroke at the conference championships in March. He also went on to place 17th at the Pac-10 Championships in the 200 breaststroke in the fourth-fastest time in UW history, and 23rd in the 50 freestyle.
He finished the 2007-08 season with five first-place finishes in both the 100 and 200 breaststroke during dual meet competitions.
