May 24, 2008
Four golfers from the UCLA women's team were recognized Saturday by the National Golf Coaches Assn. at the group's annual banquet.
Junior Tiffany Joh and freshman Maria Jose Uribe were named NGCA 1st Team All-Americans, sophomore Sydnee Michaels earned 2nd Team All-America honors and junior Maiya Tanaka was named to the All-Central Region Team.
Joh captured her third All-America nod from the NGCA after leading the Bruins in every statistical category during the season. She was ranked among the nation's Top 5 players all season. On Friday, Joh tied for first place in the NCAA individual championship after 72 holes, but lost in a playoff.
Uribe, 18, won the 2007 U.S. Women's Amateur Championship in August. She recorded a stroke average of 73.3 and six Top 10 finishes during the season.
Michaels tied for eighth at the NCAA Championship, which ended on Friday. Last year she won the NCAA East Regional Championship with a school-record score of 13-under par. In 2008, she recorded a scoring average of 73.7.
Tanaka, a former walk-on, recorded the best finish of her career at the NCAA Central Regional, tying for 10th place at two-over par 218 (+2).
