TUCSON, Ariz. - The second-ranked Arizona State offense rapped out 21 hits and scored at least one run in the first eighth innings to clinch the outright Pac-10 championship with a 13-6 win over Arizona at Kindall Field on Thursday.

The loss, just the fifth of the year at home for Arizona, dropped the Cats to 36-17 overall and 10-12 in the conference, while ASU improved to 45-9 for the season and 16-6 in the league.

The Sun Devil offense simply overpowered the Wildcats, with all nine starters collecting at least one hit, including three with three base knocks and a pair with four.

All-America and Player of the Year candidate Brett Wallace continued his monster season going 3 for 6 with two runs scored and his Pac-10 leading 20th home run of the season.

Leadoff hitter Jason Kipnis and cleanup Petey Paramore each finished the contest 4 for 5, with Kipnis driving in four and swatting his 13th home run of the year and Paramore chipping in with two RBI and a pair of runs scored.

For the Wildcats, senior C.J. Ziegler stayed red-hot at the plate going 2 for 4 with three RBI and pair of runs scored while hitting his seventh homer in his last seven games to remain one behind Wallace for the conference lead. Ziegler's 19th home run of the season handed him sole possession of fifth all-time for a single season at UA.

T.J. Steele hit his 10th homer of the year and Colt Sedbrook extended his hitting streak to 13 straight games with a double in the third inning

ASU starter Josh Satow picked up his eighth win of the year, allowing just three runs on four hits over five innings of work. He struck out three and walked five.

UA's Preston Guilmet (6-4) was charged with the loss after allowing seven runs - six earned - on 10 hits in 3 1/3 innings.

Arizona and Arizona State will meet up for game two of the three game series on Friday at 6 p.m. Senior left-hander David Coulon is scheduled to make his final regular season start for the Wildcats.
