Hey GymCat Fans!!

We just returned from Pac 10s in Washington, and we are now ready to tackle the post-season. We left Tucson on Thursday and as soon as we arrived, typical of Seattle there was both rain and snow. Friday we had a scheduled practice day so everyone could adjust to the equipment. Our practice went very well and all of us were eager to compete on Saturday. Friday night we went to the Men's Swimming and Diving National Championship and cheered our hearts out. We stayed for the final race, the 800 M relay where the Wildcats broke a new NCAA record which lead to them winning the national title the following day. We were truly inspired by the swim team and ready to represent Arizona Athletics with pride just as the swim team did Friday night. (Way to go Swim Cats!! We are so proud of all of you!)

On Saturday we arrived at the meet site around 12:30 knowing we had a very long day ahead of us. Due to the fact that there are seven gymnastics teams in the Pac-10 and only four events, there would be a lot of sitting around. We began the night on a bye, and instead of watching the girls who were up competing first we went into the locker room and listened to music to pump us up. Our goal for the meet was to be completely focused on our team and to nail our routines like we had been in practice the week before.

After the bye we started our first competitive rotation on floor. As a team we looked very polished and started off the night with lots of energy and zero falls.

We then went to another bye and similar to the first bye listened to music and stretched behind the curtains where we were not watching the other teams. We headed to vault and we were thrilled as every single girl landed their vaults. Although we had a few landing deductions, Karin ended with a bang as she stuck her vault.

Vault ended very quickly and we did not even wait for the other events to finish before retreating to the locker room. At this point the team was really excited for bars and we continued to be involved in ourselves only.

Bars went extremely well as we hit 6/6 routines and had several stuck dismounts. I have never seen Bill so excited about our bar team. After the event he ran up to our corral where we were cheering and gave us all high fives. At this point the team spirit was soaring, after hitting the first three events solid. After bars we went straight to beam and we knew this was crunch time.

Our beam team definitely stepped up to the challenge. The cheering from the corral was so intense and I know all the girls on beam could feel the support from their teammates. The beam team was dynamite and everyone stayed on the apparatus. Our final competitor on beam, Danielle, had a beautiful routine and the team went ecstatic. It was the first meet all season that we had hit 24/24 routines. We had no idea where we would finish in the Pac-10's, but really it didn't matter to us at that point. We remained as a team the entire meet, and were so proud to be representing Arizona Athletics. Our team at this moment experienced a true unity and wonderful spirit that we had been searching for all season.

We now head into the post-season and look forward to our Regionals meet in Minnesota next weekend. The teams there will be #2 Utah, #11 Arkansas, #14 Arizona, #23 Iowa, Southern Utah, and Minnesota. We are working extremely hard this week to fine tune all the small details like stuck landings and handstands. I know that this team has such a desire to make Nationals. Since the seniors have been a part of Arizona Gymnastics we have not made nationals as a team and I believe this is the year we will make it.

*To the seniors: We want to make this year memorable and want to make nationals with you all here on the team. We know it is your goal, and it is ours as well. Together as one we will achieve this goal. Thank you for your great leadership so far this year.

*To the Team: I believe in every single one of you girls and I know that if we bring the same spirit and passion to Regionals as we did at Pac-10's, we will be a team booking our plane tickets to Georgia. Let's stay focused and give it our all. GO CATS!!!

Gymcat Fans, thanks for your continuous support. Be watching for the Regionals results!

With love,

Sarah Specht
