Chance Lindley Joins Women's Basketball Coaching Staff

May 19, 2008

Tucson, Ariz. - University of Arizona women's basketball head coach Niya Butts today announced the hiring of Chance Lindley as an assistant coach.

'I am very excited to have Chance join our staff,' Butts said. 'Chance brings a great deal of experience being a head coach at different levels, and that will be a valuable asset to this program. I love how he carries himself on and off the court, his style and demeanor, and his knowledge and passion for basketball. He is a wonderful father with a wonderful family, and I welcome him to Arizona.'

Lindley, 32, from Wichita, Kan., comes to Arizona with eight years of coaching experience at the high school and collegiate level where he has amassed an overall coaching record of 175-36 (.829) as both an assistant and head coach.

This past season he served as head coach at Barton County Community College in Great Bend, Kan., leading the Cougars to a program-best 34-4 record, a Region IV Championship, and a fourth-place finish at the NJCAA Tournament, the top finish in school history. Lindley was also named the 2007-08 NJCAA Division I District F Women's Basketball Coach of the Year, the Jayhawk West Coach of the Year and the KBCA Junior College Women's Basketball Coach of the Year.

'I feel very blessed to be here at Arizona and to have the opportunity to coach for this program,' Lindley said. 'I had a wonderful experience coaching at Barton and had a lot of success there, but I am looking forward to a new chapter in my coaching career. I am excited to coach alongside Niya and work with this staff, and I am ready to help in any way to make this program successful.'

Prior to this past season, Lindley served as an assistant coach at Barton County CC. During the 2006-07 season, he helped Barton to a 27-3 record, including a 15-1 mark in the Jayhawk West Conference. During his two-year stint at Barton, the Cougars owned a 61-7 record (.897).

Before coaching at Barton, Lindley was the head coach at Wichita Collegiate School for four seasons from 2003-06, where he guided the Spartans to a 91-10 record (.901), three-straight state tournament appearances, and a Class 3A state title during the 2005-06 season.

At Wichita Collegiate School, Lindley was named the 3A Coach of the Year in 2005-06, and was a two-time Wichita Metro Coach of the Year winner.

Lindley started his coaching career as the head coach at Wichita Independent School, where he led his team to an 18-4 record in his second season, the best mark in school history and more wins than the school had its three previous seasons combined.

Lindley graduated cum laude from Wichita State with a degree in education in 2000.

He and his wife Melissa have a two-year-old daughter, Brookelyn.
