Bruin Football Update

The first two pre-season football magazines are on the stands and both have UCLA picked in the top half of the Pac-10 Conference.

Athlon's Pac-10 magazine has the Bruins ranked No. 29 in the nation and No. 4 in the Pac-10. Lindy's College Football Preview has UCLA No. 37 overall and No. 5 in the Pac-10.

Individually, Athlon has selected cornerback Alterraun Verner to its All-Pac-10 first team.Tight end Logan Paulsen, defensive tackle Brigham Harwell and punt returner Terrence Austin are second-team selections while tailback Raymond Carter, defensive tackle Brian Price and place kicker Kai Forbath have been named to the third team.

The magazine, which features head coach Rick Neuheisel and Kahlil Bell on its UCLA-USC cover, also contains a feature on offensive coordinator Norm Chow. In addition, five of UCLA's incoming freshmen - Rahim Moore (9), Aundre Dean (10), Aaron Hester (15), E.J. Woods (17) and Nick Crissman (18) are ranked among the Top 20 newcomers in the Pac-10.

Lindy's named Harwell to its first team and tailback Kahlil Bell, Price, Forbath and punter Aaron Perez to its second unit. Hester and Moore were ranked among Lindy's Top 100 incoming freshmen. The magazine also has a feature on Neuheisel.

Earlier this Spring, linebacker Reggie Carter was named to the 'Watch Lists' of the Lott Trophy and the Bronko Nagurski Trophy. Both awards are presented to the nation's top defensive player. Verner was also named to the Lott Trophy list. Harwell was selected a pre-season candidate for the Outland Trophy, presented to the nation's top interior lineman.
