Huskies Complete First Round At U.S. Open

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Washington sophomore Nick Taylor made his U.S. Open debut, Thursday, shooting an opening round score of 6-over 77 at Torrey Pines Golf Club in San Diego, Calif.
Taylor, one of 10 amateurs in the 156-player field, tallied one birdie, five bogeys and one double-bogey in the first round. Taylor wasn't the only Husky on the course as he is joined by former UW player Rob Rashell. Rashell, competing in his second U.S. Open, shot a first-round score of 10-over 81. The Husky duo is playing in the same threesome for the opening two rounds.
Taylor is tied for 100th and nine shots behind the leaders, while Rashell is knotted in 143rd place. The pair will continue second round play in the same group teeing off from the 10th tee at 7:11 am. PT.
Taylor is playing in the U.S. Open just two weeks after sharing runner-up honors at the 2008 NCAA Championships. He was named a PING honorable mention All-American and a PING All-Region selection this season.Rashell was a four-year letterwinner for the Huskies from 1996-99 and twice earned All-Pac-10 acclaim.
