Des Moines, Iowa- On the final day of the NCAA Track & Field Championships, Erica McLain won the national title in the triple jump with a new American record. McLain earned her second All-America honor of the meet to lead the Stanford women to a sixth place finish. The Stanford women finished with 31 points, trailing the national champs from LSU with 67 points.

McLain captured her third career national championship in the triple jump. She has also won the 2007 and 2008 national indoor titles in the same event. On Saturday she captured her first outdoor title with leaps that established a new American record. Her mark of 47-11 won the competition by almost two feet. McLain hit her mark on her sixth and final attempt to clearly establish herself as the NCAA Champion, but also a favorite to capture the same event at the upcoming U.S. Olympic Trials.

Stanford's other All-American on the day was Danielle Maier in the javelin. Maier finished tenth with a toss of 159-9 to earn her first All-America honor of her career.

In the heptathlon, Lauren Stewart withdrew from the competition after finishing the first day in 25th place. Jacquelyn Johnson of Arizona State went on to win the competition with 6,053 points.

    Garrett Heath

The lone male competitor on the day was Garrett Heath in the 1,500 meters. Heath finished sixth to earn an All-America honor when he ran a time of 3.43.15. Heath earned three points for the Cardinal men, which would prove to be their only points of the meet. Stanford finished in a tie for 56th place, while Florida State won the meet on the men's side with 52 points.

Saturday marked the end of the collegiate season for the Stanford track and field teams. Several Cardinal competitors will continue their seasons into the summer with the U.S. Olympic Trials providing the highlight of the summer.
