Al Acosta Honored As CRCA Lightweight Rowing Coach Of The Year

STANFORD, Calif. - Lightweight crew's head coach, Al Acosta, was named the 2008 College Rowing Coaches Association's (CRCA) Pocock Racing Shells Lightweight Coach of the Year, as announced by the CRCA today. Acosta, in his fifth year at the helm of the Cardinal program, led his team in a season to remember as they captured their second Pacific Coast Championship and a third place finish at the IRA National Championship Regatta, the highest finish ever in program history at the national championship.

The Lightweight Coach of the Year award recognizes a coach who fits one or more of the following criteria:
He/she has demonstrated success during the current season.
He/she has demonstrated great team improvement from the prior season.
He/she has fulfilled his/her team's potential.
He/she has demonstrated a high level of professionalism and integrity as a coach.

This is the first time Acosta has earned the Lightweight Coach of the Year Award.
