Series Notes: Stanford and Georgia meet in the winner's bracket of the 2008 College World Series Monday evening at Johnny Rosenblatt Stadium. Monday's meeting marks the sixth overall meeting between the two schools, and the first since May 22, 1992, a game in which the Cardinal defeated the Bulldogs, 7-3, at the NCAA South II Regional in Tallahassee, Fla. All five previous meetings between the two schools have come in the postseason, with Stanford holding a 3-2 edge. The schools have met four times in the College World Series, splitting the contests. Stanford defeated Georgia, 3-2, in the 1987 College World Series opener on June 1, 1987 en route to the program's first national title. The teams would then go on to meet three times at the 1990 edition of the College World Series, with Georgia capturing a 16-2 victory in the winner's bracket second round, the first meeting of the schools. The Cardinal battled back to face the Bulldogs later in the tournament, defeating Georgia, 4-2, to force a deciding second game, which Georgia was able to win on June 8 by the score of 5-1, eliminating Stanford from the postseason.
