Uribe and Michaels Enjoy Fine Rounds at U.S. Women's Open

UCLA's Maria Jose Uribe and Sydnee Michaels enjoyed outstanding rounds Thursday at the opening day of the 63rd U.S. Women's Open in Edina, Minn.

Both players were under par and among the Top 15 individuals at the end of the first round on the par 73 Interlachen Country Club.

Uribe made six birdies, 10 pars and two bogeys on her way to a sterling 69 (-3). She was tied for fourth place. Playing partner and worldwide No.1 Lorena Ochoa posted an even par round.

Michaels posted a two-under par 71 and was tied for 12th place.

Interlachen was unkind to five other former Bruins, currently playing as professionals. Giulia Sergas posted an even par 73 and was tied for 33rd. Gina Umeck was tied for 95th at 77 (+4), followed by Jane Park who was tied for 110th at 78 (+5). Charlotte Mayorkas was tied for 153rd after carding a score of 83 (+10) and Vanessa Brockett was tied for 154th after posting an 87 (+14).
