A Note From Coach Bruce Snyder

Former ASU head coach Bruce Snyder,the 1996 National Coach of the Year who led the Sun Devils to a 58-45 (.563) mark in his nine years at ASU, says he appreciates the support as he begins his road to recovery and starts treatments for cancer.

'Our family appreciates the support we are receiving as we begin to treat my cancer one day at a time. We are confident in the medical people and will take strong control of my process,' say Snyder, who coached at ASU from 1992-2000. 'My family understands the interest and welcomes the wonderful support but also asks for privacy as we fully concentrate on the recovery.'

Snyder (born March 14, 1940), led ASU to an 11-0 regular season in 1996 that was highlighted by the stunning 19-0 upset of top-ranked Nebraska on Sept. 21, 1996. That team was led by a host of future NFL players that included Jake Plummer, Juan Roque, Pat Tillman, Lenzie Jackson, Keith Poole, Grey Ruegame, Steve Bush, Derrick Rodgers, Derek Smith and Jason Simmons.

His 1997 team won the Sun Bowl 17-7 over Iowa and finished 14th in the final Associated Pressr rankings.
