July 22, 2008
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Former Washington State University All-American Kim Welch won the Alliance Bank Golf Classic this past weekend, capturing her first career victory on the Duramed Futures Tour.
Welch's first victory came in a four-hole sudden-death playoff over Kin Young Pak after the two finished tied at 9-under 209 in the 54-hole event.
Welch, who won 11 times during her four-year collegiate career at WSU, moved from No. 11 to No. 7 on the Futures Tour's money list with the victory. After posting five top 10 finishes in 2007, she has already recorded three top 10s this year, including last week's win and a runner-up finish at the Tour's season-opening event in Lakeland, Fla.
Welch recently won the Golf Channel's reality show 'Big Break Ka'anapali,' earning an exemption into the 2008 Navistar LPGA Classic, free entry into every event on the 2009 Duramed Futures Tour, a BMW Z4 and an Adams Golf endorsement contract which includes $10,000 in cash.
