July 24, 2008

Stanford's Arantxa King was named to the Bermuda Olympic track and field team by the Bermuda Olympic Association on Wednesday. King will compete in the long jump at the Beijing Games after Bermuda used its IAAF female at-large selection to name her to the team.

King has just completed her freshman season at Stanford where she made an immediate impact for the Cardinal. During the indoor season, King qualified for the NCAA Championships in the long jump where she placed tenth.

King will be one of six athletes that represent Bermuda in the upcoming Olympics. She has international experience, competing for Bermuda in the 2007 Pan-American Games.

The Olympic Games begin August 8, while the long jump competition gets underway on August 16 with the prelims.
