WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Several members of the Husky women's tennis team were honored by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) for their scholastic achievement today, and the team as a whole was named an All-Academic Team.

The team award is bestowed on schools that maintain a collective grade point average above a 3.20.

Individual awards were handed out to seniors Tara Simpson and Allison Rainey, and freshmen Venise Chan and Aleksandra Krsljanin.

In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria: 1.) Be a varsity letter winner, 2.) Have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and 3.) Have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters.

The ITA award is the second academic honor for Simpson and Rainey. They were both members of the Pac-10 All-Academic second team. Simpson is a chemistry major while Rainey majored in political science.
