USA Softball Match Postponed

Aug. 14, 2008

BEIJING -- Until today, the U.S. Softball team had not trailed in an Olympic match since the gold medal game in 2000 against Japan.

With the game halted with in the top of the third inning, Mike Candrea's squad find themselves down 1-0 against Canada.

Much as the rain pelted the Tucson area for some part of the evening, a 1:40 delay stopped the game on the other side of the world in the bottom of the second. Play resumed briefly, but was called off with Natasha Watley at bat in the top of the fourth.

Team Canada scored an unearned run in the bottom of the first off of an uncharacteristic error by Caitlin Lowe in center, and a sacrifice fly off of starting pitcher Monica Abbott.

More information on make-up time and date will become available soon.
