SEATTLE--The Washington volleyball team is ranked ninth in the nation, according to the CBS College Sports Network/AVCA preseason poll released Tuesday.

The Huskies, who finished last season with a ranking of No. 10, return four starters including two-time All-American Jessica Swarbrick and 2007 National Defensive Player of the Year Tamari Miyashiro.

Washington is one of five Pac-10 teams ranked in the top-10. Stanford is the top Pac-10 team coming in at No. 2. The Cardinal is followed by USC in fourth, California in fifth and UCLA in sixth.

The Huskies will face seven teams ranked in the top-25, in the conference foes above, and in No. 11 Oregon, No. 12 Hawai'i and No. 22 San Diego.

Washington was ranked seventh in last week's Molten/Volleyball Magazine preseason media poll.

The Washington volleyball team will play an intrasquad scrimmage this Saturday, Aug. 23 at 10:30am in the Bank of America Arena before it kicks off the season at the Holiday Inn Classic hosted by Montana State Aug. 29-30. The Huskies will then host Portland State, Boise State and Gonzaga in the Northwest Challenge Sept. 4-5.
