Aug. 27, 2008
LOS ANGELES -- The USC baseball program has released its 2009 baseball schedule, head coach Chad Kreuter announced today. The Trojans will play 19 of their first 24 games at home, including opening Pac-10 Conference play against UCLA (March 21-23) and Arizona State (March 27-29). Most of the game times will be announced at a later date.
USC plays its annual home-away-home series with Long Beach State to open the 2009 campaign, starting on Feb. 20 at Dedeaux Field. Saturday's game will be played at Long Beach's Blair Field before a return to Dedeaux's friendly confines on Sunday.
The Trojans welcome Western Carolina for a weekend series (Feb. 27-March 1) before a return engagement at Tulane (March 6-8) after USC played two midweek games in New Orleans back in 2004. After returning from the Big Easy, the Trojans host UC Irvine in a midweek game before a four-game home series against Winthrop (March 12-15).
Brown will play a doubleheader at Dedeaux Field on March 25, between the UCLA and Arizona State series.
USC will play Pac-10 road series at Arizona (April 3-5), Oregon State (April 17-19), Washington (May 1-3) and the regular season finale at Cal (May 22-24). The Trojans will host Oregon (April 17-19), Washington State (April 24-26) and Stanford (May 15-17). Oregon makes its first appearance since 1980-81 when the program was suspended and reinstated in 2007.
Home-and-home midweek series will involve local teams: Cal State Fullerton, Cal Poly, Loyola Marymount and Pepperdine. The Trojans host Cal State Northridge on April 7 before playing a two-game series in Northridge (May 9-10).
