Cal Women Victorious at San Francisco Invitational

SAN FRANCISCO - The California women's cross country team took top honors while the men took third at the San Francisco Invitational Saturday morning at Golden Gate Park to open the 2008 season. The Cal men finished with 105 points and the Cal women finished with 52 points.
In the women's competition, the Golden Bears placed three runners in the top 10. Junior Gabriela Rios-Sotelo placed third (18:06) on the 5K course, while freshman Keena Kohl took eighth (18:24). Senior Rebecca Palm finished ninth (18:31). Stanford's Alicia Follmar claimed the women's individual crown, clocking in at 17:57.
Senior Matt Miller paced the Cal men by placing third (25:37). Freshman Nate Beach also grabbed a top-10 placing, touring the course in 25:47. Edwin Kibet Tarragon from the Academy of Art University claimed the men's individual crown, crossing the finish line at 25:07.
Cal returns to action at the Sacramento State Jamboree on Sept. 13.
