Teresa Noyola Earns Pac-10 Player Of The Week Honors, Named To <i>Soccer America</i>'s Team Of The Week
Sept. 2, 2008
STANFORD, Calif. - Freshman Teresa Noyola was named the Pac-10 Player of the Week and was selected to Soccer America's Collegiate Women's Team of the Week for the week of August 25 - 31. Noyola scored three goals in wins over Navy and No. 15 Boston College over Labor Day weekend.
The Palo Alto, Calif. native struck twice in the 3-1 win over Navy (8/29) and was credited with the game-winning goal after Navy was able to get one across the line late in the game. Noyola headed the ball into the net in the 36th minute for her first of the game after Kelley O'Hara redirected Morgan Redman's cross with her head back across the penalty area and right to the freshman midfielder, who beat the charging Navy goalkeeper. Noyola earned her second goal in the second half when she beautifully finished O'Hara's low cross into the side netting after being aided by Lindsay Taylor, who dummied the ball to shake off a Midshipmen defender.
In the 3-0 defeat of No. 15 Boston College, Noyola scored Stanford's second of the game after taking a pass from fellow rookie Taylor and calmly lofting the ball over the Eagles' `keeper. Although Noyola was not credited with any assists on the weekend, she was an integral part in creating almost all of the Cardinal's goals.
The freshman now has three goals just three games into her college career and sits at second on Stanford's points list with seven. This is the first Pac-10 Player of the Week and Soccer America Team of the Week honor for Noyola.
