The Golden Bears opened the season with a 3-1 victory over UC Riverside. SO F Andrew Wiedeman scored two goals, including the game-winner, and SO MF Hector Jimenez added two assists. A 1-0 upset of No. 4 Maryland gave the Bears a 2-0 record to start the season. With the win, the Bears jumped to as high as No. 5 in this week's Top Drawer Soccer poll.

Traveling to Michigan, the Beavers took on Oakland University in their season opener. SR MF Ryan Callahan fired off three shots on goal, but was unable to find the back of the net as the Beavers fell, 1-0. Against Michigan, OSU GK Mike Miller collected three saves in the 4-0 loss, dropping the Beavers to 0-2 on the season.

The Aztecs open their 2008 season Friday against Michigan in the Courtyard Mariott, Central San Diego Tourney. San Diego State is led by JR D Nick Cardenas, who has been named to the Missouri Athletic Club's Hermann Trophy Watch List. The Aztecs will finish out their opening weekend with a match against Albany.

Stanford and San Jose State played to a 1-1 double overtime tie on Sunday as the Cardinal began the 2008 season with a 0-0-1 record. SR F Tom Montgomery put Stanford on the board with a goal in the third minute of the first half. The score marked Montgomery's second collegiate goal.

UCLA (1-1-0)
SR D Brad Rusin led UCLA to a 3-0 shutout victory over UC Riverside on Sunday, scoring the game-winning goal on a header after a free kick and leading the inexperienced Bruin defense to a shutout. Rusin's goal was just the second in his career. UCLA faces another tough week as it takes on No. 1 Wake Forest on Friday, followed by No. 15 North Carolina on Sunday.

Washington looks to get in the win column this week as it heads to the Diadora/Spinx Furman Invitational, in Greenville, S.C. The Huskies are coming off two one-goal losses, including a 2-1 defeat at the hands of 10th-ranked Virginia Tech. JR MF Jo Jo Katz, who missed all of last season due to injury, put the Huskies on the board in just the third minute of the match, scoring on an unassisted shot from 12 yards out.
