Venise Chan Earns No. 28 Preseason Ranking
Sept. 4, 2008
SKILLMAN, N.J. - The 2008-09 tennis season is officially just around the corner now as the Intercollegiate Tennis Association released its preseason singles rankings. Washington sophomore and returning No. 1 player Venise Chan earned a No. 28 ranking in the year's first poll.
The ranking is a new career-high for Chan, who last year was twice ranked 30th during her freshman season. She was unranked at this time one year ago before going 15-6 at No. 1 singles and qualifying for the NCAA Singles Championships.
Chan also recently found success among the professional ranks, as she made the final of the ITF Khonkan Pro Circuit event in Thailand two weeks ago, winning six matches and coming through qualifying to finish runner-up.
Chan figures to get a strong early test at the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships, one of three majors in college tennis that kicks off the season on September 27.
