MOSCOW, Idaho -- Notre Dame swept the Washington State volleyball team with game scores of 25-16, 25-22, 25-14, Saturday morning at the Idaho Classic Volleyball tournament at Memorial Gym.
Both WSU and Notre Dame have 3-2 records.
WSU's Emily Rooney led the match with 11 kills and hit a team-high .500 hitting percentage. Brittany Johnson added eight kills and Cassie Robbins and Jackie Albright each chipped in another six. Breann Nesselhuf had 20 assists. Albright led the team with 10 digs.

The Cougars struggled offensively in the first set as the Irish took an early lead and never looked back. Rooney led WSU with four kills in this set as only three Cougs scored with kills. ND spread the offense among six players and took the set 25-16.
The second set saw a much more aggressive WSU team take the floor. After starting down 10-5, the Cougs ran off five straight points to tie up the set. The teams then began trading punches with WSU taking a 20-19 lead and the Irish took a timeout which proved fruitful as ND out-scored the Cougs six to two for the 25-22 win. Notre Dame hit .342 as a team and WSU hit .194 in this set.
The third set was competitive for the first third but the Cougars allowed a seven-point run by the Irish which moved them to an insurmountable 22-11 lead. Hitting .406 and holding WSU to a .152 percentage, Notre Dame won the third set 26-14 and the match 3-0.
Washington State will conclude this tournament with a match against Eastern Washington at 4:30 p.m. Notre Dame plays Idaho in the nightcap.
