Richards Named To College Soccer News National Team of the Week

Sept. 8, 2008

SEATTLE - Washington freshman forward Brent Richards was named to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week, the website announced Monday.

Richards (Camas, Wash.) helped the Huskies win the Diadora/Spinx Furman Invitational this past weekend, scoring three goals in the two victories over College of Charleston and host Furman. Richards, tabbed the tournament's Offensive MVP, scored his first collegiate goal in the 4-1 win over Charleston, Friday, and then netted the Huskies' first two goals in a 4-0 blanking of Furman in the championship match, Sunday.

The wins helped Washington snap a brief two-game losing streak after opening the year with back-to-back 2-1 losses to Fairleigh Dickinson and Virginia Tech at the Nike Portland Invitational, Aug. 29 and 31.

The Huskies (2-2-0) wrap a five-game season-opening road trip at Portland, Fri., Sept. 12, at 8 p.m. The match will be televised live on the Fox Soccer Channel.
