SEATTLE - Washington women's soccer sophomore defender Kendyl Pele was named to the National Team of the Week, the website announced Monday.

Pele (Kennewick, Wash.) helped lead the Huskies to two wins in the Husky/Nike Invitational at Husky Soccer Field over the weekend, a 4-1 win over Colgate on Friday and a 2-0 shutout of Kennesaw State on Sunday. Pele and the Husky defense allowed just seven shots in the win over Colgate and posted their second shutout of the young season on Sunday, limiting Kennesaw State to just four shots. The Owls came into the weekend having scored 12 goals in their first four games.

Thanks in large part to Pele, the Huskies are off to a perfect 4-0 start, their best start to a season since the 2004 campaign when they went on to advance to the NCAA Elite Eight, a program-best finish. They have allowed just two goals in four games this season after allowing nearly two goals a game in 2007.

The Huskies (4-0-0) head to Portland, Ore., this weekend for the Portland Nike Invitational where they will face San Diego State (2-2-1) on Friday at 3 p.m. and Northern Arizona (2-3-1) on Sunday at Noon. National Team of the Week
