Getting to Know...Taylor Skaufel

Taylor Skaufel made an immediate impact in Stanford's secondary as a freshman last season, coming off the bench in 12 games to finish with 35 tackles, including 21 solo efforts. One year later, he is the Cardinal's starting safety.

In the season-opener against Oregon State, his hit on Beaver wideout Darrell Catchings at the 1-yard line forced a fumble through the end zone, resulting in a touchback and gave the ball back to the Cardinal with 44 seconds remaining, preserving a 36-28 win over the Beavers.

A three-year starter and team captain at The Woodlands (Tex.) High School, Skaufel earned first team all-state honors as a defensive back following his senior season. He was also named to the All-Greater Houston team and was a candidate for the city's player of the year award.

Skaufel returns to his native state of Texas this Saturday as Stanford meets TCU in Fort Worth, with kickoff slated for 10:00 a.m. Pacific Time.
