ITA Releases All-American Championship Selections, Preseason Player Rankings

Skillman, N.J. - Tennis' top collegiate players are slated to compete in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) first national events of the 2008-09 tennis season, as selections for the D'Novo All-American Men's Tennis Championships and the Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships have been announced by the ITA. Several UCLA players will be competing in both the men's and women's draws.

The men's event will take place Oct. 9-12 in Tulsa, Okla. The Bruins' two players in the main singles draw are sophomore Holden Seguso and ASU transfer Matt Brooklyn. UCLA junior Haythem Abid, who sat out all of last season due to injury, is listed in the qualifying singles draw along with Maryland transfer Amit Inbar. Freshman Eugen Brazdil is currently the first alternate for a qualifying singles spot.

The women's event, which takes place Oct. 2-5 at the Riviera Country Club, will feature four singles players and three doubles teams. Sophomore Andrea Remynse is currently listed as the seventh alternate for a main-draw singles spot and will compete in the qualifying if she doesn't get in. Junior Yasmin Schnack and Georgia Tech transfer Maya Johansson are both listed in the qualifying singles draw. Junior Ashley Joelson is the Bruins' lone entrant in the pre-qualifying singles draw. In doubles, Joelson and Schnack are paired together in the qualifying draw. The Bruin teams of Pantic/Remynse and Johansson/Stephanie Wetmore are currently alternates in the qualifying draw and will compete in the pre-qualifying
