BERKELEY - The California men's cross country team is ranked fourth, while the Golden Bear women are ranked 12th in the west region of the USTFCCCA's Preseason Division I Men's and Women's Regional Cross Country rankings, as announced today by the organization.

In the men's poll, Cal was third among Pac-10 squads, with Oregon topping the chart at No. 1 and Stanford coming in at No. 3. During the 2007 season, the Bears reached their highest national ranking ever of No. 8.

Four Pac-10 schools came in the top five in the women's preseason regional poll, and Cal was seventh out of the Pac-10 teams listed. The Bears have started their season on a positive note, claiming first at the USF Invitational on Aug. 30.

The Bears return to action on Saturday, Sept. 27, at the Stanford Invitational. Some of Cal's top runners from last year will make their season debuts in that meet.
